A Three Day In Depth Course Looking at the Development of PSED and the Role of the Practitioner in Supporting PSED

Who is it for? :
Managers / Deputy Managers of daycare settings, Playgroup / Preschool leaders, Foundation Stage co-ordinators, Reception teachers, Children's Centre teachers. This course is also ideal for settings wishing to offer INSET for all their staff. The three days can be taken individually over a period of up to three years.

Course Description:
Level 2: PSED - A Unique Child - PSED and the Role of the Practitioner in Supporting PSED within the EYFS / SEAD / [Social, Emotional, Aspects of Development] and SEAL [Social, Emotional, Aspects of Learning] Framework.

This three day in depth course will extend practitioners' understanding of the key domains of the personal, social and emotional aspects of babies' and young children's development and learning:

  • Being Social
  • Being Close
  • Being Me
  • Having Feelings
  • Having Friends and Relationships

Day 1

Practitioners will have an opportunity to:

  • Explore the importance of relationships and experiences in the early years
  • Understand why babies' and young children's ability to feel at ease with their caregivers is central to their well being and development
  • Have a basic understanding of child and brain development linked to PSED
  • Reflect on the factors which are likely to promote or hinder resilience, well-being and development.

Day 2

Practitioners will have an opportunity to:

  • Explore the link between feelings, human needs and behaviour
  • Gain a deeper understanding into approaches which can support babies and young children in distress and conflict.

Day 3

Practitioners will have an opportunity to:

  • Explore the building blocks of Being Close
  • Gain a deeper understanding into attachment and the role of the key person
  • Have an opportunity to reflect on the whole course and consider next steps in their development.
